Course Summary
This is a one-day course is designed to assist new users of the ICS Impulse in becoming more familiar with the system’s operation. For current users, this course will allow you to stay up-to-date as new technology and software are introduced to vHIT testing. Key training areas include hands on practical development, data interpretation and reporting test results.
The purpose of this course is to discuss the evaluation of all 5 end organs (semicircular canals, saccule and utricle) of the vestibular system. We’ll address several questions. Why can this information be crucial to the diagnosis of the patient? How may this information assist in determining the treatment? And how can the effectiveness of the treatment be assessed? Participants will have the opportunity for hands-on experience with ICS Impulse.
Learner outcomes:
- Describe what occurs anatomically that makes the head impulse test able to determine the side of lesion
- Define the difference between overt and covert saccades
- Define what constitutes a normal response for head impulse testing
- Define what constitutes an abnormal response for head impulse testing
- Describe key factors in patient's history.
- Describe differences between oculomotor subtests (gaze, VVOR, VORS and skew deviation)
- Performing efficient lateral impulses
- Performing efficient vertical impulses
- Interpreting and reporting the results
